Since this diary is here and today was my first escapade into the water with a kiteboard... Forecast was for easing winds after the gales over the last week and swinging west also. Gave up on the computer and drove to Borth at lunch time and put up my 8M North Vegas. Launch was rubbish because my weight bag dislodged prematurely and kite rolled across the beach...argh. Second attempt was better and spent two hours blasting up and down the beach on the landboard as the tide fell. Almost lost it going through some water that was deeper than I guessed but recovered. Wind dropped somewhat and the kite surfers came in. Decided to put up my 14M Black Tip (almost didn't bother) but was glad I did because the wind picked up a little. Decided to go and have a play in the water with a board to get the feel of it and actually managed to stand up several times - but of course there really wasn't enough wind for any sustained boarding. Did manage to steer the board and get it moving in the direction I wanted before falling backwards into the water due to a lack of power. Did this a few times (hard work!). Its not gonna be easy (especially with the Borth waves) but I think with a bit more wind and I'd have got some distance going.
Finally gave up after half hour or so when the kite would barely stay in the air and went back to the land board. By this point it was hard to get started even on land but could gradually get a decent speed. Good few runs between the estuary to car park. Forced to give up when dusk fell. Starving hungry due to no lunch but a very enjoyable day.
